G.I. Joe – movie review
Title: G.I. Joe
Released(AU): Aug 6th
Director: Stephen Sommers
My rating: 4/10
When thinking about writing this review, I came across this article ; it certainly makes sense after seeing the movie. While in the cinema, I remember thinking, ‘who’s telling me this story?’
The way the movie is cut together feels like 1.5 movies worth of screenplay was crammed into 1 movies duration. The story is a simple enough ‘good guy, bad guy’ action movie, but not done well.
Character development is weak and Dennis Quaid’s performance was poor at best, it seemed like he was doing this movie on his coffee break. Jonathan Pryce was poorly cast as the President, but maybe this is because I’ve been watching ‘Clone’.
Generally the whole film was well shot, but the acting is a bit ordinary, the dialog is simple and short and gives little time for the actors to present any personality but perhaps that was hampered by the final cut of the movie.
Having said the above, I would have much rather spend my money to see G.I Joe than that boring and slow ‘Harry Potter and the half blood prince’ which should have been condensed to 45 minutes.
