Avatar – movie review

Avatar isn’t flawless, and neither is Aliens and or T2, but that doesn’t effect me, I’m there to be entertained and Avatar does this in spades.
Yes the storyline is shallow and linear, but the story is told in a new and very entertaining way. The combination of industrial CG technology and great directing takes the standard ‘boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl’, ‘good guy – bad guy’ and ‘journey to self discovery’ and presents it in a new and interesting way.

For me, the 3D was very subtle with the exception of a few floating things, but I gather this was JC’s goal. Avatar is up there with the best science fiction movies of all time and will end up in a lot of peoples collections. 8/10  – if only the story was as good as the directing.
